Tinnitus is considered as being a quite rare condition but because the rates of tinnitus are increasing as the years pass, more doctors are encouraging their patients to have a tinnitus test. For anyone who thinks they may be experiencing the symptoms of tinnitus, it’s important to have a tinnitus test performed as soon as possible. This way that individual is able to make any necessary changes to their life to avoid causing their condition to become any worse. Hearing a ringing or booming noise in the ears that doesn’t seem to go away on its own or which continues to come back would signal a person that they should have a tinnitus test.
When a person is experiencing these symptoms and believes they may have developed a tinnitus condition, they should get in to see their doctor for a tinnitus test and proper diagnosis. There are actually a few different types of tests which can be used in a tinnitus diagnosis including x-rays, audiograms, tinnitus pitch matches, tinnitus loudness matches and residual inhibition tests. Audiograms are also used as a tinnitus test and work by diagnosing hearing loss. When hearing loss is detected, more often than not this is the cause of tinnitus and can be treated quite easily.
This is basically the best case scenario for someone suffering from tinnitus, because after being fitted for a hearing loss they are likely to notice a huge relief in their condition if not have it gone altogether. Tinnitus pitch match tests are also often used here and work by using different frequencies to determine the exact pitch of tinnitus an individual has. The pitch, whether high or low, tells doctors how severe a person’s condition is. The higher the pitch the more serious the condition is and the sooner that person needs to get appropriate treatment.
Doctors rely on the residual inhibition test when they want to determine the amount of time a person’s tinnitus condition is reduced after being masked for a given amount of time. Masking basically covers up the tinnitus noises for a specific amount of time and doctors can then see how an individual’s condition is reacting to the masking. These are all important tests that doctors can use to determine whether a person has tinnitus and if so, how severe it is. In more serious cases however, proper treatment must be used to offer that person relief and help them live as normal a life as possible.
In many cases tinnitus conditions will wean off and go away on their own eventually, after a few weeks or even months or years. In persistent cases of tinnitus, the best thing a person can do is try to get relief by occupying their ear canal with other noises. Whether you have to wear an iPod in your ear throughout most of the day or put on CDs of soothing noises at night so you can go to sleep, the most important thing is that you’re getting relief. This is only going to worsen your condition and cause you even more trouble.
