Should I have an MRI :/?
Could I have an acoustic neuroma?
when I was 13 I developed what was then diagnosed as Meniere’s disease. I had a CAT scan done, but I have never had an MRI. I am now 21, so it’s been 8 years.
I have had loud constant tinnitus in my right ear for the past 6 years, along with vertigo and hearing loss.
I did have an ear surgery to rule out a fistula when I was 16. If there was an acoustic neuroma present would they have seen it then? Should I ask the doctor to send me for an MRI now?
I’m not positive, but i think that acoustic neuromas only affect one side at a time, so it seems reasonable to look into it. A CT scan is likely to pick up a neuroma that is large enough to cause symptoms as severe as yours, but a MRI has higher resolution and might find something missed by a CT scan. I think its a good idea to ask your doc about this.
